My Little Nest Story: Lara Aman Mattey, Wayne, PA Studio Owner

Step into our Wayne, PA  location and you are instantly embraced by a sense of joy and purpose.  There's a spark in the air, and everyone moves with a spring in their step.  And while the coffee bar may have something to do with it... (they make a mean pour over! ) ... it's really due to the personal passion that owner Lara Aman Mattey and her team bring with them every morning.

Long before she became a studio owner, Lara was a Little Nest client, and her family journey with Little Nest is a huge part of what inspires her to create a welcoming experience for her guests.

Where will your family pictures be in 10-20 years?

Thank goodness for iPhones, tablets and back up hard drives!  Our lives are fast paced, and technology has made it so much easier to document every chapter of our story on the go, and preserve it for posterity.  Our children are the most visually documented in history, and their stories will be told in daily technicolor for their great grandchildren to pour over and bring to school for show & tell.  The only thing we have to do is diligently back everything up and store it digitally.

But... what happens if our technology lets us down? Where will all of our pictures and posts be found?

Come as you are and know that you Belong

by Lindsay posted in motherhood, community

Motherhood is amazing, overwhelming, magical, and chaotic.  Quiet moments overlap with spills and squeals and toys all over the living room.  When you first bring home your tiny little treasure the fear and awe can feel like a tidal wave.  Can you really leave the house?! Can you really do this?

Yes you can!!

Why we're a female franchise that unapologetically caters to women

A few weeks ago, one of our studios received a call from a gentleman who was upset about an email campaign he'd received from us. He wasn't upset for the usual reasons people are when they receive emails from companies, such as repeatedly trying to opt-out or no recollection of ever subscribing in the first place.

Instead, he was upset that we sent a franchise email campaign for our female-owned franchise that had language geared toward women.   After he ranted and then hung up on one of our youngest female employees, she emailed her boss, who emailed our operations director, who forwarded the email to me.

Rather than just chuckle and move on, I realized I had something much bigger to say in response.

Love Notes to the Next Generation

by Lindsay posted in reflection

Words of love and encouragement may spill from our mouths every day, but how often do we take the time to write them down?  Putting pen to paper is an act of intention.  When we write a note to our kids, we are showing them that they are valuable, and giving them a gift that they can treasure and look to when they have a rough day.

The beauty of love notes, versus a full blown letter, is that they are quick and easy to create. They can be funny. They can be serious. They can show pride in an accomplishment, or just celebrate a simple moment. There are no rules except one… whatever you write should come spilling from your heart.

resolutions, intentions & the belief in possibility

by Lindsay posted in reflection

It's the first week of January and we are all awash in the topic of New Year's Resolutions. Every magazine, blog, and morning tv show is telling us how to do it right.  And on the flip side, scaring us with the statistics of how many will fail.  I don't know about you, but to me it feels a bit overwhelming.  Should we even bother if 90% of us aren't going to succeed?

We say yes!!

Modern Moms: Becca Fox Starr

by Alex

One of the most amazing parts about our jobs at Little Nest Portraits is that we get to meet the most amazing moms literally daily. Everyone who walks into our studios has a powerful story to share and getting to be a part of that-- learning about it exactly what brought them to us in that moment of time.

One of our longtime friends, Rebecca Fox Starr is a mom and client that we've loved from the moment we met her. Becca started her blog, Mommy Ever After after the birth of her daughter and through the birth of her son. Shortly after her son was born, she published her struggles with post-partum depression in a powerful blog post that has since created a support system and community of moms and folks everywhere who share a similar story and struggle. Becca was kind enough to sit down with us and talk about what it meant to share her personal story, what "real life" looks like in our Instagram world and her life now. Her story of hope, overcoming and sharing is one that will resonate with anyone. We loved every second of it, and think you will, too.
